A short walk from Tanjung Gelam, Batu Topeng takes its name from the large, distinctive rock formations that rise out of the sand along the shoreline — a favourite subject for photographers, especially in the softer light around sunrise and sunset.
The bay here is more sheltered and shaded than the open stretch at Tanjung Gelam, with gently lapping waves and a noticeably quieter atmosphere, since most day-trippers head straight for the more famous beach next door.
That relative seclusion makes it a pleasant place to unwind in the afternoon — a quick stop for photos among the rocks, or just a shadier patch of sand to sit and cool off away from the busier parts of the coast.
