Tanjung Gelam — also known as Ujung Gelam — juts out from the western side of Karimunjawa Island like a cape, which puts it in one of the best positions on the island to watch the sun set directly over the Java Sea.
Rows of coconut palms lean out over the powder-white sand, and one particularly photogenic leaning tree near the shoreline has become one of the most-photographed spots on the beach. It’s about 15–20 minutes from central Karimunjawa by motorbike or car, and food stalls nearby mean you don’t have to rush off once the light starts to fade — though the beach does get busiest right around sunset.
It’s a regular stop on the Full Day Sea Tour and both Fun Experience packages, and a favourite place to relax with a fresh young coconut while the sky turns gold. Bring a light jacket for the breeze near sunset, and arrive with enough daylight left to walk the full stretch of beach before the light fades.
